|Barnard Park
The fourth annual Gandhi walk across Southern New Hampshire via the Rockingham Recreational Trail. One day, 50 miles; can you do it?
Time & Location
Oct 10, 2020, 3:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Barnard Park, Barnard Ln, Goffstown, NH 03045, USA
About the event
A walk to the New Hampshire Seacoast via the Rockingham Recreational Trail inspired by Mohandas Gandhi's 241-mile Salt March in 1930. Come join us -- rain, shine or snow! Please see www.thegandhiwalk.com for more details!
Not ready to do a 50-mile walk from Goffstown to the Seacoast at 3 in the morning?! There's also a 25-mile walk leaving from Raymond at 10:30 a.m., and a simpler 10-mile walk beginning at 3:30 p.m., all ending together at the Atlantic Ocean!
To honor Gandhi's 151th birthday on October 2nd, for the day of the walk, participants take the same vows he made to his mother at 18. He kept them for 3 years in 1888 London, while he studied law -- surely you can keep them for 24 hours?
1. abstain from meat
2. abstain from alcohol
3. abstain from sex
Transportation and refreshments will be provided, but only a modicum of swag, out of respect for Gandhi's minimalist lifestyle.
I had read in books about the benefits of long walks in the open air, and having liked the advice, I had formed a habit of taking walks, which has still remained with me. These walks gave me a fairly hardy constitution. --Mohandas Gandhi
